FLEMING STUDIO

Lodi, IT, 2020

The design of this recording studio for two young producers is the opportunity to build a room that definitively breaks away from the traditional conception of recording spaces. The aim of the design is meeting the requirements of the highest sound quality while creating a space that reflects the personalities of the two producers, in harmony with them and to set the right mood to make music.

The lighting system integrated in the design of the studio, that can be changed and modulated to the desired intensity and colour, is the key to meet the need for duality of this single space, that changing his environment can fit perfectly the client, as a bespoke-suit.

The gradually declining shape of the arches that divide the control room lead to the front wall, where the speakers are soffit mounted. The particular polyhedral shape dug in the massing of the room contributes to compress and stiff the sound and to make it more focused, especially in the mid and low frequency range, typical of the music genres produced by the two clients (trap, electro music, hardcore).

Simple materials were used to build this new studio, handled to fully express their essence of being  industrial products, emphasizing their natural texture. The rare nature of every material are highlighted by the techniques used to create the individual components. Accordingly, the edges of the OSB panels are left fully exposed, the Valchromat texture is left in sight, the floor is covered by bare rubber rolls.

The two-tone front wall, that seems carved in the massing of the room, becomes iconic and recalls the duality of the project itself, in contrast to the neutral side walls, that turn into backgrounds to change the space using the lighting systems.

The design of the bespoke furniture alongside the acoustic, lighting and interior design, complete a custom-made project. The bespoke main desk and production desk, other than hosting all the functions in their ergonomic shape, are designed to provide the best acoustic response.
